Abstract
To support IPTV efficiently, it is necessary to introduce multicasting capability to automatic switched optical network (ASON). This paper discusses the merits of multicast IP and ASON, an architecture and performance of overlay and tiered multicast IP/ASON, and a regional testbed in China.
