  • Abstract
Currently, studies by the MILSATCOM Systems Office (MSO), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), and others, are being conducted to investigate possibilities of using commercial satellites for extending the Defense Satellite Communication Systems (DSCS) constellation´s life (DSCS stretch-out) by satisfying a significant portion of DSCS traffic via commercial satellites. This paper presents methods for performing loading analyses and for predicting maximum throughput achievable under tactical jamming for commercial satellite communication systems. This paper also presents a performance evaluation for a custom payload on a Hughes 601 Bus in support of Commercial Satellite Communication Initiatives (CSCI) study. These analyses provide for performance evaluation and sizing of proposed custom commercial payloads to satisfy SHF GP plus Core user requirements. To predict maximum capacity for a network in a linear or hardlimited transponder we use a non-iterative approach for solving the “L” simultaneous link equations for stressed and unstressed environments
