Abstract :
We show that resonance modes in microcavities can be exchanged under a cyclic parameter variation in 2-D parameter surface. The mode exchange implies that the cyclic variation encircles a singular point, so-called exceptional point. We analyze the topological structure of eigenvalue planes near the singular point.
