Abstract
A method of defect characterization based on numerical simulation is presented. The steps of the study, its limitation, and its difficulties are described. Using two examples, the authors analyze the simulation limits and other simulation problems to be solved. The first example is a simulation of an induction machine fed by an inverter, the second example is a DC motor fed by a chopper.<>
