Abstract
This paper surveys and compares various definitions of cyber-physical systems occurring in contemporary research literature and relates them to RFID system research. In comparing the major characteristics of both we conclude that RFID systems are very similar to CPS and develop a topology of CPS that includes RFID. To frame the discussion of RFID systems closer we also develop a formal model that allows for the specification of RFID systems and explore the models´ suitability to express a wider range of CPS.
