Abstract :
Although vector control has rapidly become a standard in electrical drives, it is contended that there is still much misunderstanding and confusion. This colloquium brought together leading professionals in industry and universities, together with drive users, in a lively forum. It covered introductory concepts, current and planned industrial practice, and future developments. A special introductory session presented vector control concepts and performance with a minimum of mathematics. Cage and induction motors and variable-speed drives were considered
