Abstract
This paper describes a convex optimization approach to bound the performance degradation of control systems subject to network loop delay. We consider a linear time-invariant continuous-time plant connected over a communication network to a remote controller. The network introduces bounded but time-varying delays between the controller and plant. We establish an upper bound on the worst-case performance degradation due to the network delays as a function of the delay bound, which can be used as a design parameter for the networked implementation. Numerical simulation results illustrate the degree of conservativeness of the bound.
