Abstract
This work presents a new voltage balancing theory for the diode-clamped multilevel converter/inverter system. A complete analysis of the voltage balance theory based on a 5-level back-to-back converter is given. The analysis is based on fundamental frequency switching control and then extended to PWM control, which can extremely lower the harmonic components of the voltage. Simulation and experimental results show the validity of the control theory.
