Abstract
An improved intraframe rate-quantization(R-Q) model for H.264/AVC video coding is proposed in this paper. Based on this R-Q model, a frame layer bit number prediction method is derived. The proposed method can be applied in rate control to select accurate quantization parameters (QP) for intraframe according to the target bitrate, especially when multipass coding is permitted to get a refined bit allocation. Experimental results show that when employing our proposed bit number prediction method, the intraframe target bits mismatch ratio is much smaller than quadratic model which is adopted in H.264/AVC reference encoder. Hence, this method is extremely useful for H.264/AVC rate control applications.
