Abstract :
In the deregulated power system, it is important to accurately and rapidly quantify the available transfer capability (ATC) of the transmission system. This paper presents a case study of the ATC assessment on the Malaysian power system. The ATC is evaluated using both the proposed quadratic sensitivity method and the AC power flow method. The ATC are evaluated by considering both the point-to-point transfer and the area-to-area transfer. Initially, contingency screening and ranking techniques are used to define the critical lines in the system and these lines are considered in the ATC assessment. Numerous simulations have been carried out to calculate the ATCs by considering voltage and line security limits as well as voltage stability limits. Simulation results are analyzed with regard to the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed quadratic sensitivity and the AC power flow methods.
