Abstract
The work presents the design of a variable reluctance machine considering several rotor prototypes. Different forms and materials constituting the machine rotor are then considered in order to produce an optimal torque. Finite element package was used to compute the electromagnetic characteristics. The comparison between the machine rotors performances realised leads to the choice of an optimal configuration of the rotor prototype
