Abstract :
Recently, ultra wideband (UWB) system has become one of the most useful technologies in the room communications. In this paper, characteristics of return loss of a basic E-type planar antenna (BEPA) and a half-BEPA (H-BEPA) are considered for the length of elements. In order to make the broadband characteristic in a H-BEPA, a H-BEPA with an elliptical element is proposed and analyzed by the FDTD method. Characteristics of return loss and radiation patterns are described for element length and values of ellipticity of an elliptical element, respectively. The half-BEPA with an elliptical element is miniaturized by 32% aiming at the application to UWB system.
