Abstract :
This paper presents a ATM switched satellite network architecture to interconnect LAN´s and WAN´s providing high speed multimedia services. Various architecture design issues such as multiple access, on board processing and switching, and network control and management are discussed. A satellite internetwork protocol architecture example is discussed. A round robin reservation demand assignment multiple access (R-DAMA) is proposed for satellite gateway network integrated with an ATM for conectionless packet service. The R-DAMA protocol performance in terms of throughput, delay, and maximum queue size is simulated
