Abstract :
Summary form only given. In free space communication, it is desirable to have single-polarization EDFAs since polarization diversity can be used to multiplex transmitter and receiver or double transmitter capacity per wavelength via polarization diplexing. In this paper, we use the double-pass Faraday mirror approach to realize a 250 mW single-polarization EDFA, without the need for special polarization controllers or maintaining Er fibers.
