Abstract
In this paper a quite simple and novel edge detection method for non-diffraction beam images which are widely used in industrial applications is proposed. This method is based on the fact that the non-diffraction beam image is composed of several bright alternating with shade rings. A round detecting mask of suitable size was selected and moved along a bright ring in a specified way and in a certain range, the sum of intensity of all pixels in the mask was calculated and the center of the mask with maximum sum of intensity was chosen as an edge point in this local area. Determination of different parameters and the steps to follow in the detection method were discussed in detail. Experiments were carried out and the results demonstrated the efficiency of the method.
