Abstract :
A zoned hollow ellipsoidal lens antenna fed by microstrip patches in millimeter wave is designed in this paper. The lens has 5.4λ radius and 13λ height, with a four-zone area hollowed out to reduce the weight of the antenna. The optimized antenna achieves a pencil beam for single feed operation at 77GHz, and its half power beamwidth (HPBW) for E plane and H plane are 5°. The Side Lobe Level (SLL) of the antenna is lower than -15.5dB at the frequency of 76GHz~77.5GHz, while the RL (Return Loss) is lower than -10dB. Then, the multibeam characteristic of the lens is discussed in the paper. The radiation pattern for 7 feeds indicates a good performance in multibeam operation condition.
