Abstract
Supporting future communications imposes a very strictly real-time requirement on quality-of-service (QoS) management. In this paper, design issues and considerations for real-time QoS management architecture in ATM networks are first addressed. We then present a real-time QoS management architecture that incorporates the required functionalities for the ATM networks. By real-time monitoring the QoS behavior of interest and adjusting the associated system parameters, network performance is expected to be maintained at a stable and satisfactory level. Finally, we illustrate the procedure of real-time QoS management by giving an illustrative example
