Abstract
System level abstract communication channels are synthesized to actual communication channels through system level communication synthesis after system level partitioning. The synthesized communication architecture significantly influences the performance of a system-on-chip (SoC). This paper presents a novel methodology to synthesize crossbarbus-based communication architecture on system level automatically. This methodology first proposes a system level communication delay estimation model. Then it clusters slave modules by Integer Nonlinear Program (INLP) according to the communication delay of the slave modules. Finally it generates the parameters of the crossbar bus to meet the communication delay constraint, which is the difference between the total delay constraint and the compute delay of the SoC. Experiments show that the automatic crossbarbus-bascd communication synthesis methodology results in up to 9.3x faster when compared to the methodologies ever before.
