Abstract
A summary of the history of this measuring technique is given, and the most common types of RASS are described. RASS is usually associated with the measurement of temperature profiles, while its potential role for wind and high resolution turbulence studies is less recognized. The usefulness of RASS for such applications is discussed and examples are presented
