Abstract
Summary form only given. In this paper we present an evaluation of Cr doped CdTe for solid-state laser applications. We discuss the material preparation, spectroscopic properties, and the laser performance at room temperature. In addition, we present an overview and comparison of the optical properties of several Cr/sup 2+/ doped binary and ternary II-VI materials.
