  • Abstract
Summary form only given. Solid-state lasers emitting in the eye-safe region near 2 /spl mu/m are promising candidates for several applications requiring propagation through the atmosphere, such as coherent Doppler velocimetry and high-sensitivity Dial measurements. In this work we perform a comparative analysis of diode-pumped cw Tm-Ho:YLF and Tm-Ho:BaYF lasers, oscillating at around 2 /spl mu/m, in terms of output power and wavelength tunability. The crystal samples of LiYF/sub 4/ (YLF) and BaY/sub 2/F/sub 8/ (BaYF), doped with 5.2% Tm and 0.5% Ho concentrations, were grown in a home-made computer-controlled Czochralski system under a purified argon atmosphere.
