Abstract :
A network concept in which the end office performs only the basic transport services for circuit connections as well as signal interworking is presented. Services are controlled from a centralized location and provided from one or more service modules which are connected to the network via standardized ISDN (intergrated-services digital network) interfaces. This allows services to be introduced by a centralized system instructing one or more service modules, thus eliminating further changes to the end office. It is shown how the proposed network can readily provide this basic transport service and signal interworking.<>
