Abstract
A switch-mode rectifier (SMR) topology having the following advantages over other SMR topologies is described: a high input power factor; a minimum input current distortion; elimination of the DC bus electrolytic capacitor; the boost function is implemented together with the function of the high-frequency inverter, increasing the power density of the SMR unit; and high reliability, since it is an inductor-fed SMR that uses the basic power switches of a full bridge converter. The principles of operation, a system analysis, and a design example of the switch-mode rectifier are discussed. To verify selected predicted results, an experimental 1 kW SMR converter has been implemented. Results obtained with this experimental unit are presented.<>
