Abstract :
In VOD systems, the limited disk I/O bandwidth and buffer space makes admission control very important. An online measurement based admission control algorithm on VBR video servers is proposed in this paper. By adjusting the length of scheduling period according to the residual system resources and deciding the variable range of period tolerance based on online measurement, the algorithm simplifies the admission process and consumes few resources, furthermore, it makes the residual system resources more close to dynamic balance of ´equal quantity´. The result shows that the performance of the system is greatly improved by using this algorithm.
