Abstract :
In this paper, we developed a novel two-layered key management scheme for the popular two-layered mobile ad hoc networks (MANET), which contained gateway-layer and non-gateway-layer. The scheme combines distributed key management scheme for gateway-layer and centralized key management scheme for non-gateway-layer. It is showed that the communication cost of key updating was optimized when the non-gateway nodes were averagely located under each gateway node. The re-keying messages will be reduced while the number of gateway nodes decrease.
