Abstract
An examination is made of the future of LCN (local computing networks) standards from a technology, standards process, and user environment point of view. All three of these aspects of standardization must be considered if the future viability of LCN standards is to be ensured. While no answers are offered, a series of questions is posed that must be at least considered before the next generation of LCN standards will be successful
