Abstract :
As terminal system designers begin to get to grips with the air-interface technology of W-CDMA and the other IMT-2000 technologies, there is a demand for a system-level simulation environment that is truly cross-disciplinary. The 3G and software radio concepts require an unprecedented degree of amalgamation between RF and DSP technology-areas that traditionally have been well separated. This point is illustrated by way of examples of both receiver and transmitter system design using Entegra´s “3G Design Suite” for SystemView by Elanix. First, an analysis of the UMTS terminal receiver noise budget and hence expected implementation margin is presented. Second, an example of a UMTS basestation transmitter simulation showing how RF amplifier requirements are strongly dependant upon the statistics of multiple-user W-CDMA waveforms
