Abstract :
Summary form only given. We attempted for the first time to our knowledge to utilize off-plane propagation in an orthorhombic class nonlinear optical material. In view of the experimental results the advantages of off-plane KNbO/sub 3/ could be better utilized at lower pump intensities and larger crystal aperture with an additional tightly pumped preamplifier stage. Also applications in synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillators at low pump levels seem very promising.
