Abstract :
Summary form only given. We observed the photorefractive effect in relaxor ferroelectric crystal PZN-PT by two-wave mixing. We have found that crystals have a large photorefractive gain coefficient. Two-beam coupling experiments were performed at /spl lambda/ = 633 nm to examine the photorefractive properties. All the experiments were conducted in extraordinary polarization of light to utilize the electrooptic coefficient r/sub 33./ The experimental results of gain coefficients are shown as a function of grating period. A maximum gain coefficient is recorded up to 7 cm/sup -1/ at a grating period of 1.8 /spl mu/m. The effective trap density and effective electrooptic coefficient are estimated to be 1. 1 /spl times/ 10/sup 16/ cm/sup -3/ and 103 pm/V, respectively, by fitting the theory based on the standard band transport model to the experimental data.
