Abstract
In this paper, several algorithms are designed for the idle speed control of a vehicle engine. These algorithms are proportional (P), proportional plus derivative (PD), proportional plus integral plus derivative (PID), and two fuzzy control counterparts: P and PD. A knowledge base was acquired through computer simulation and a finite number of fuzzy IF-THEN rules were created for the control problems. Initial simulation results show a marked improvement in both the overshoot and the response speed
