Abstract
Modeled as a linear time-varying (LTV) system, a single-balanced active mixer´s noise characteristics is analyzed systematically. Impulse sensitivity function (ISF) is introduced to indicate the linear time-varying nature and also elucidates the noise transformation mechanism of active mixers. Explicit expressions of ISF´s and noise figure are presented, which can be used to predict noise performance of active mixers and offer optimization suggestions for the circuit.
