Abstract
A technique that detects an arcing fault in power apparatus is presented in this paper. It uses a PC based data acquisition system for detection of the arcing faults. It is shown that it is possible to determine its location in three dimensional space. The technique was implemented and tested in the laboratory. Some test results are also included in the paper. The proposed technique can be used to protect power system equipment, such as transformers, inductors, capacitors etc
