Abstract
Traditional approaches to grid monitoring tend to focus on vertical systems that provide specific views of the system in select, key metrics. What happens when application and/or project requirements cover more than any single system can provide or when development time and effort are limited? We discuss here an integrative approach which focuses on combining components of "off the shelf" systems into a composite monitoring framework providing a broad range of monitoring indicators from several levels of the fabric/middleware/application stack. The solution implemented starts from an analysis of requirements, surveys the available products, and organizes a project which integrates the selected monitoring components into a framework, providing information used for performance measurements and debugging as well as accounting and resource management.
