Abstract
This paper considers dual-stage servo design for hard disk drives. An optimal control design technique to minimize destructive interference between two actuators is presented so as to design a fixed order dual-stage actuator control system producing good time and frequency responses. Experiment results are also presented to demonstrate substantial improvements in track seeking in the microactuator range and track following via the dual-stage actuator control.
