Abstract :
This paper describes work performed to create the Real-time Security Data Display system (RSDD). The reliability and security of the North American electric transmission grid is supervised by the North American Electric Reliability Council through regional security coordinators. There is a large amount of information required by the security coordinators to perform their functions; the problem is to grasp the meaning of such a large data set in a timely fashion to allow real-time security issues to be addressed. The RSDD is a tool the security coordinators use to visually assess the health of the system based on familiar indicators. This presentation addresses the infrastructure and methodology employed to generate and operate the RSDD system.
