Abstract
We have proposed and demonstrated a novel method of realizing a shape-controllable narrowband optical filter using SBS in an optical fiber. By BPSK modulating the pump light with deliberately coded binary data patterns, various types of bandpass filters as well as notch filters were realized. These may be exploited as powerful tools in optical signal processing. Moreover, the bandwidth can be further broadened for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) applications, by using a long highly-nonlinear fiber with a large SBS gain.
