Abstract
This paper describes the design considerations and effectiveness of step-dynamic voltage regulator (S-DVR) as a solution to mitigate against voltage sags. A possible short-circuit problem encountered during S-DVR operation is identified and analyzed. Two solutions are proposed and they are validated through computer simulations. A prototype of the S-DVR is then implemented and its effectiveness to compensate for voltage sags is demonstrated.
