Abstract
Summary from only given. A plasma model can provide satisfactory explanation to the experimental results on soft tissue ablation by short ultraviolet laser pulses and illustrate the fundamental mechanism underlying the tissue ablations. By considering quantitatively the thermal ionization pathway this new plasma model demonstrates, in contrary to the photochemical and photomechanical models, that the ionization is the cause of the tissue ablation in a wide spectral region from ultraviolet to near-infrared.
