Abstract :
We present the performance analysis of a fast frequency-hopped (FFH) binary orthogonal frequency-shift keying acquisition receiver for communications through nonselective fading environments. The receiver employs the noncoherent matched-filtered detection for rapid acquisition in the search mode. Based on Beaulieu´s convergent series approach (see IEEE Trans. Commun., vol.C0M-38, no.9, p.1463-1474, 1990), an efficient analytical formula is developed to characterize its acquisition performance for the AWGN channel, Nakagami-m, Rician, and Rayleigh channels. Numerical results show that substantial performance improvement in severe fading environments can be achieved by appropriately combining FFH diversity and the number of symbols being observed
