Abstract
At Sunderland Polytechnic, they have been using the object-oriented language SMALLTALK to help develop innovative solutions to new and old control problems. The paper is not about the expert system interface but is about an optimal proportional-integral-plus (PIP) control law design method which does appear to have some desirable features especially for those interested in installing real time digital, multivariable control systems, involving optimisation. All of the results presented were obtained using the advanced interface
