Abstract :
For the control of an electric vehicle one must reach a good performance/cost ratio at a very high reliability of the system. Measuring the position with digital Hall sensors and applying advanced algorithms for position estimation allows one to implement a sinusoidal commutation of a brushless motor, using a vector control scheme. Thus, improved commutation efficiency, lower EMC radiation and increased system efficiency can be reached with a very cost-effective solution.
