Abstract :
This paper considers the instantaneous availability equivalence of a repairable parallel-series system based on different system designs. Assuming that the system components have constant failure rates and repair rates, we calculate the instantaneous availability of the improved systems according to factor improvement method (FIM) and standby redundancy method (SRM). The instantaneous availability equivalence factor is introduced to compare different designs based on the FIM and the SRM. Two types of the instantaneous availability equivalence factors are analyzed.
