Abstract
We present an architecture of a fuzzy processor based on an 8-bit 6502 microprocessor. For fast processing of the fuzzy controller algorithm the ALU is expanded, and some basic fuzzy operations are implemented as microprograms. The calculation of the rule base is implemented as an optimized microprogrammed instruction. With about 20% more hardware requirement we achieve a six fold speed-up for the fuzzy controller. A prototype has been implemented on field programmable gate arrays
