Abstract
The rotor designs of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors are investigated along with the consideration of the cross magnetization. The torque of the motor is decomposed into four components in order to understand the cross magnetization effect on the torque. The validity of the calculated results is confirmed by experiments. It is clarified that the V-type magnet configuration causes significant cross magnetization effect, which results in the decrease in the torque. An appropriate magnet configuration is proposed in order to reduce the cross magnetization effect.
