Abstract
Presents a fuzzy language for the syntactic description of online handwritten symbols. The proposed language - FOHDEL - can be extended to describe other image patterns as well. The presented language incorporates fuzzy logic techniques to describe the syntactic relations of the semantic features extracted from a symbol pattern. The basic idea behind FOHDEL is to have a language with which a minimal number of character prototypes can be generated to match with a large number of samples acquired from different writers. In the first part of the paper the theoretical basis of the fuzzy formalism is defined. The structure of the proposed language is then illustrated with some examples. Finally the application of FOHDEL in the authors´ online character recognition system FOHRES is presented
