Abstract :
This paper presents an application of thermography for aiding ITS in a nighttime-traffic evaluation. The mentioned evaluation is concerned on over limited velocity vehicles which are violating the driving laws, including security considerations. An utilized thermograph technique, in this research, for detecting and evaluating vehicles that are running with the over limited velocity is the consideration of colors¿ cluster underneath vehicles. The mentioned colors¿ cluster represents reflected heat between the road and vehicle. To implement such method for evaluating the velocity of vehicle, the movement of colors¿ cluster implicitly shows the velocity of vehicle. The average velocity of colors¿ cluster is able to be evaluated by finding the different positions of the cluster from consecutive image¿s frames and dividing by time interval. By means of utilizing such method, various average velocities of focused vehicles can be found, including not over and over limited speed. When implementing the mentioned method to sample thermal images which are recorded from a nighttime traffic road in Rangsit-Nakornayok area, it is found that 82.54 % accuracy occurred when inspecting on various type of vehicle comprises car, van, bus, and truck that running over the specified velocity.
