Abstract
Summary form only given. We demonstrate enhanced bit error-rate performance using spatially diverse detection, where multiple photodetector segments are used to detect separate regions of the emitted optical power. The low loss multimode fiber retains significant modal diversity which appears as a spatial diversity in the far field. The weighted electrical signals are recombined in a simple fashion to compensate for differential mode delay.
