Comparative study of EV propulsion motors for A-class vehicles

Abstract :
30kW (60kW peak) propulsion motors are normally required of A-class electric vehicles (EVs). Various design efforts are invested to increase the power density of the motor, as a means to decrease the use of rare-earth permanent magnet (PM) materials. Further, concentrated winding motors are received attention to save the winding effort of the coil. In this work, three motor models are compared in the perspective of motor volume, power density, use of PMs, constant power speed range (CPSR), manufacturing flexibility, cost etc. One is a typical interior V-shape motor, and the other two are concentrated winding motors.
