Abstract
This paper presents an approach to early fault detection for inverter fed induction motor drives. The method relies on a simple algorithm, which analyzes the line current signal acquired upstream from the rectifier-inverter set. The diagnostic system proposed here, introduces an ad hoc index related to the health state of the induction motor. Experimental results, showing the satisfactory performance of this algorithm are provided. In particular, tests for rotor winding fault have been performed.
