Abstract :
This paper introduces a mechanically adjusted variable-flux (MVF) concept for switched flux permanent magnet (SFPM) machines. 2D FEA predictions and experimental results are presented showing the effectiveness of the MVF mechanism. Optimisation of the short circuit bar is carried out and several variations on the concept are presented, discussed, and experimentally validated.
